Cosmetic Dentistry
They are a host of procedures that are performed to brighten up and improve one’s smile. Tooth contouring, teeth whitening, crowns, veneers, dental implants and composite bonding being some of the more common procedures.
Crowns and bridges
Crowns are done to improve the function or aesthetics of a tooth or both. Some tooth structure is removed and a cap shaped like a perfect tooth is cemented on. There are new generation crowns that are porcelain or zirconia and do not have metal that shows after a few years, should the gums recede.
Dental Veneers
Sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates, these are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their colour, shape, size or length.
Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with us.
Oral Hygiene Services
Our friendly, gentle and empathetic hygienists provide a full range of oral hygiene services. These include scale and polish, fluoride treatments, oral hygiene instruction, as well as preventative treatments for children and adults such as fissure sealants.
Tooth Whitening
We use the latest light activated technique that will whiten and brighten your smile in about an hour. Alternately we take impressions and provide you with custom made trays so that the bleaching can be done at home.
Dentures
We work with highly skilled technicians to ensure that both partial and full dentures are as comfortable and retentive as possible. In some cases, the dentures can be secured with implants, which would maximise comfort.
White fillings
White (composite) fillings are done in our practice. These are the new generation fillings that are aesthetically superior and do not contain controversial mercury.
Nitrous oxide and oxygen (Happy gas)
We offer inhalation sedation to anxious children or adults.
Minor surgical procedures
Tooth and root extractions are done at our practice. Minor gum surgery is also performed with an electro-cautery technique.
Root canal treatment
We do painless and effective root canal treatment in our practice.
Dr Alec Chemaly studied dentistry at the University of The Witwatersrand. He has passed his American National Board examinations and obtained his Florida State Board Licence.
He is passionate about dentistry and is continually refreshing his knowledge through many courses in all disciplines of dentistry. In 2012 he completed a certificate course in Implant Dentistry at The University of Pretoria.
He is a kind compassionate person who is sensitive to others needs.
Both Dr Alec Chemaly and his Oral Hygienists are registered with the South African Dental Association and the Health Professional Council of South Africa.
